In the city of Beaumont, Lamar University hosts the most affordable online MBA in the state at the time of this writing. The online MBA at Lamar costs students $318 per credit hour, which is less than half the national and state averages.

Lamar’s cost per credit hour is only slightly lower than the second and third most affordable schools in Texas, Sam Houston State University (SHSU) and Texas Tech University. SHSU and Texas Tech cost $320 and $330 per credit hour respectively, which equates at most to $15 per credit hour more than Lamar. In addition, Texas has two more schools with online MBAs that cost less than $475 per credit hour. West Texas A&M University (WT) charges students $410 per credit hour for their online MBA, and the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley’s (UTRGV) program costs $472 per credit hour.

Texas MBA Programs with the Lowest Debt at Graduation

Pursuing an MBA involves a significant investment for any student. Incurring a large amount of debt can limit or delay the return on that investment. Therefore, students seeking an advanced degree should consider how much debt they will accumulate during their studies and how long they will have to carry that financial obligation.

In Texas, approximately 48% of business students graduate with some student debt. This is a slightly higher rate than the national average of 46.6%. Many students expect to take out loans to finance their online MBA, but it is still worth considering how much debt a program will require and how long it will take to pay off. While some Texas schools have rates of student debt as high as 71%, the state is also home to several programs with rates below 40% and even as low as 10%.

It stands to reason that many of the programs with low tuition rates also have lower rates of debt. However, through additional means such as financial aid, employer funding, and grant money, a lower average rate of debt does not necessarily correlate with a lower cost. Among online MBA programs in Texas, the school with the lowest percentage of business students graduating with debt is Hardin-Simmons University (HSU), at 9%, the lowest rate among Texas schools by more than 10%. After HSU, Sam Houston State University (SHSU) has the lowest rate of debt with 23% of graduates carrying debt. No GMAT Required

One of the major application requirements for many MBA programs has historically been standardized test scores. The Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) or the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) were nearly universal requirements for students seeking an advanced business degree for many years. More recently, however, many schools have moved from requiring GMAT or GRE scores for admission to either weighing them among many metrics or not at all. Texas is no exception to this trend. While many of the online MBA programs in the state still require standardized test scores, several schools have made testing optional and others do not include standardized testing in their admission decisions at all.

There are four schools in Texas that do not consider standardized test scores at all in the selection process. As mentioned above, TSU and TWU do not require standardized test scores, and neither Abilene Christian University (ACU) nor the University of Houston (U of H) consider these scores in their acceptance decisions. Even at schools that do not require GMAT or GRE scores, it is typically advisable for students to provide test scores. For example, the online MBA at the University of Dallas (UD) only receives test scores from 5% of applicants, but it does consider those scores in the selection process. In addition, students applying to any top tier business schools will likely be at a disadvantage if they do not submit test scores.

Still, the majority of Texas MBA programs do require test scores as part of the application package. As a result, most students will decide to take the GMAT or GRE and submit scores. Highest Graduation Rate

Both schools and students have a vested interest in ensuring that those enrolled in their online MBA programs make it through to graduation. Schools invest in students with the hope that their investment will be returned in the form of prestige and alumni donations, while students enroll in a program with the expectation that their time and money will yield a profitable degree. Thus, a school’s graduation is a key metric for both parties seeing a return on their investment.

The vast majority of online MBA programs are developed to be completed within three years or less, so for our purposes, graduation rate reflects the percentage of students who graduated within this time period. The state of Texas has a graduation rate of 63%, which is slightly lower than the US average of 68%. However, this does not necessarily mean that only 63% of MBA students in Texas graduate, as many students just take longer to complete their degree than the standard three years.

Texas has five schools that either match or exceed the national average three-year graduation rate. West Texas A&M University (WTAMU) and Texas A&M University-Kingsville both see 83% of students enrolled in MBA programs graduate in three years or less, a rate that is 20% higher than the state average and 15% higher than the national average. There are two more programs in the state that graduate more than three-quarters of their students within the three-year time frame: Abilene Christian University (ACU) at 78%, Angelo State University’s Norris-Vincent College of Business at 77%, and the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) at 68%.

Higher graduation rates can be the result of a number of different factors. Some schools offer more comprehensive academic support or smaller class sizes, while others may be more selective in the enrollment process, choosing only the most driven students. However, since few students want to put forth the time, effort, and money necessary for an MBA program only to not make it to graduation,, a higher graduation rate is usually a sign of a more successful program and, by extension, more successful students.

Abilene Christian University

Online Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Abilene Christian University (ACU) offers an AACSB accredited online MBA that is designed for working students and can be completed in as little as two years. The 36-credit program is one of four MBA programs in Texas with a 100% acceptance rate, and 78% of its enrolled students graduate within three years.

Applicants to the online MBA program must complete ACU’s online application and submit all previous college transcripts, a current resume, a letter of intent, and a processing fee. To be considered for the program, applicants must have either two years of full-time professional work experience or a GMAT score in or above the 50th percentile. With approval from the Program Director, applicants may submit a comparable GRE score or waive the testing requirement with a GPA above 3.0. A minimum cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 is required for full admission into the program, although probationary admission may be granted to applicants with a GPA between 2.5 and 2.9.

Once enrolled, students will take nine core courses, including Strategic Marketing, Innovation, Managerial Decision-Making, and Leadership. Through elective coursework, students pursue one of six tracks in Business Analytics; General; Healthcare Administration; International Business; Marketing; or Operations and Supply Chain Management.

Students in the online MBA should expect to pay $732 per credit hour, or a total of $26,352 over the two-year program. Though the rate is below the state average cost per credit hour of $815, ACU offers various financial aid opportunities to help students offset or defer the cost of attendance.

Angelo State University

Master of Business Administration

The Norris-Vincent College of Business at Angelo State University hosts an MBA that can be completed in as little as a single year. All of the courses in the 30-credit program are offered online in eight-week terms and encompass an interdisciplinary curriculum that will help develop communication skills, ethical reasoning, responsible decision making, and knowledge of business in a global environment.

Angelo State accepts 95% of qualified applicants to the MBA program. To qualify, applicants must submit all previous college transcripts, a resume, and a GMAT score of at least 430 or an equivalent GRE score. A GMAT waiver may be available for students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher in their last 60 credits of classes, or an undergraduate GPA of at least 2.5 and three or more years of relevant professional experience. Applicants without the necessary prior business coursework may be required to enroll in prerequisite courses. Of students who enroll in the program, 77% achieve an MBA in three years or less, the fourth-highest MBA graduation rate in Texas.

The MBA curriculum consists of 10 required courses and no electives. Courses include Advanced Management Accounting; Legal and Social Environment of Business; and Managerial Economics. Students interested in a career in healthcare can pursue a specialization in Healthcare Management that requires two additional courses and can be complete in 14 months.

Baylor University

Online Master of Business Administration (OMBA)

The Online OMBA at Baylor University’s Hankamer School of Business offers students a flexible degree program designed to accommodate working students and can be completed in as little as 12 months or up to five years. Classes are available online 24 hours a day to allow students to study on their own schedule.

The AACSB accredited program requires 48 to 60 credits to graduate, depending on previous coursework. The curriculum differs between five available concentrations in Cybersecurity; Executive Communications; General MBA; Global Trade and Supply Chain Management; and Marketing. All students take core courses such as Accounting, Economics for Managers, Fundamentals of Applied Business Finance, and Managing for Higher Performance. Some foundational business classes may be required for students without the necessary prerequisite coursework.

Admission into the OMBA program requires a bachelor’s degree, three letters of recommendation, and either a minimum of four years of work experience or supervisory experience. Applicants must submit an application along with undergraduate transcripts and a current professional resume. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Tuition for the program is $1,068 per credit hour, making the full cost of the program range from $51,264 to $60,624 if prerequisites are required. Baylor does offer some financial aid options, and 53% of students receive education support from their employer.

Dallas Baptist University

Master of Business Administration (MBA)

At Dallas Baptist University (DBU) students can earn an ACBSP-accredited MBA entirely online in as little as two years. The 36-credit online program offers the same classes and instructors as in-person classes available to students anytime and anywhere.

DBU uses a holistic review process to determine which applicants to accept. Admission into the program is based on several criteria. All students must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and demonstrate sound moral character. In addition, applicants must have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0, a GMAT score of 425 or above, five or more years of managerial or leadership experience, and 12 credits of graduate work with a GPA of 3.0 or above. Any applicant with an undergraduate degree, a minimum GPA of 3.0, demonstrably sound moral character, and who meets any one of the other requirements will be granted full admission. Students who meet the moral and degree requirements but fail to meet the other criteria may be admitted on a provisional or deferred basis.

Once enrolled, students in the online MBA program will take 24 credits of core classes such as Managerial Accounting, Corporate Finance, and Management Information Services. In addition to core classes, students must choose an area of concentration. Online students may choose to concentrate in Conflict Resolution Management, Finance, Health Care Management, International Business, Management, Marketing, or Project Management.

Hardin-Simmons University

Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Developed for students of all backgrounds, the MBA at Hardin-Simmons University (HSU) offers students an affordable online degree that can be completed in as little as one year. Students may pursue either a thesis or a non-thesis based curriculum.

Most courses in the 45-credit curriculum are designed around eight-week semesters. Students entering with the necessary undergraduate business coursework may be able to complete the degree with only 30 credits. A non-thesis specialization is available in Sport Business.

To apply for the program, students must submit a GMAT score, transcripts of all schools attended, a score of 4 or better on the GMAT essay portion of another essay as proof of the applicant’s writing ability, a resume, and be interviewed by the program director. Applicants must have a GMAT score that, when added to their undergraduate GPA and multiplied by 200, equals or exceeds 1,000. The testing requirement may be waived for students with an undergraduate GPA of 3.2 or higher.

HSU’s MBA has the seventh-lowest per credit tuition in the state, at $495 per credit hour, well below the state’s average tuition rate of $815 per credit. Only 9% of graduates leave the program with student debt, the lowest percentage in the state.

Houston Baptist University

Online Master of Business Administration

Houston Baptist University (HBU) is home to an online MBA that helps students develop their understanding of financial principles, global issues, leadership, ethics, and decision-making. With classes presented in an eight-week format, students can complete the 36-credit program within 18 to 24 months.

Online students can specialize in one of six degree tracks, including Entrepreneurship; General Management; International Business; Marketing; Organizational Development and Change; and Sustainability. Each specialization requires nine credits in addition to 27 credits of core courses. Students may be required to take up to 12 credits of foundation courses based on previous coursework.

Applicants should submit any official college transcripts, along with a 300- to 500-word personal statement, a current resume, and an application to the school. In addition, the Peregrine Assessment must be completed by all applicants, although the results are not considered for admission. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Once accepted, students can expect to pay $575 per credit.

Lamar University

Master of Business Administration-General Online

Lamar University in Beaumont offers an accelerated online MBA that can be completed in 12 months and–at $318 per credit–has the lowest tuition of any MBA program in the state. The program is accredited by the AACSB and offers a comprehensive curriculum covering finance, accounting, marketing, and international management.

Students enrolling in the MBA take 30 credits, including 21 credits of core classes and nine credits of electives. Students who did not receive a bachelor’s degree from an AACSB-accredited program may need to take up to three additional courses. International students will be required to take the self-paced course Business Communication.

To enroll in the online MBA, students submit a GMAT score and undergraduate transcripts. While there is no minimum GMAT score, in order to be admitted, an applicant’s undergraduate GPA multiplied by 200 and added to their GMAT score must equal 1,000 or above. Applicants may request a GMAT waiver if their business undergraduate GPA was at least 3.0 or they have at least three years of management experience along with a minimum 2.5 GPA in their business undergraduate program.

Prairie View A&M University

Master of Business Administration

Prairie View A&M University’s (PVAMU) online MBA offers students a flexible, AACSB-accredited program that can be completed in two years. Classes in the 36-credit curriculum are offered through both synchronous and self-paced asynchronous formats, allowing students to schedule courses to meet their needs.

The curriculum includes nine core classes and three elective classes. Students have the option of using the elective classes to pursue a concentration such as Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Finance, or Management Information Systems, or a General Management concentration.

The program requires students to complete six prerequisite courses with a grade of “C” before enrolling in the core curriculum; most students with previous business coursework will be able to waive some or all of the prerequisite classes. In addition to the prerequisite coursework, applicants must have an undergraduate degree with a minimum GPA of 2.5, three letters of recommendation, submit an essay, and complete the university’s graduate application. A resume is not required but is recommended. Neither the GMAT nor the GRE are required.

The per-credit tuition rate for PVAMU’s MBA is $856, slightly higher than the state average of $815. About half of students graduate with some debt, averaging $39,100 per student.

Rice University

The Jones Graduate School of Business at Rice University offers an online AACSB-accredited MBA (MBA@Rice) that requires 54 credits to complete and enrolls new cohorts quarterly.

Entry into the MBA@Rice requires an application essay, an undergraduate degree, transcripts from all previous schools, a current resume, a GMAT or GRE score, and an application fee to be submitted along with an application. The testing requirement may be waived for students with any of the following: seven or more years of full-time work experience, a graduate degree in a quantitative field, a terminal degree, a professional certification that relates to a quantitative field, or scores from another exam that demonstrates comparable quantitative ability.

Once enrolled, required courses include five 10-week, full-term, three-credit classes and 13 five-week, part-term, one and a half-credit courses. In the second year of the program, students take 13.5 credits of elective courses. Throughout the program, students must complete two field experiences, one MBA@Rice Residential experience and one Global Field Experience (GFE). Students are required to come to campus for the residential requirements.

Through the elective coursework, students in their second year may choose to follow a general management curriculum or one of the following industry focus areas: Corporate Strategy, Corporate Finance, Investment Management, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Energy, or Healthcare.

Sam Houston State University

Master of Business Administration (MBA)

The AACSB-accredited MBA at Sam Houston State University (SHSU) is one of Texas’s most affordable MBA programs. At $320 per credit hour, the program has the second-lowest tuition rate in the state. Only 23% of graduates leave the program with student debt, also the second-lowest rate in the state. In addition to low tuition and rates of debt, SHSU funds financial aid opportunities for students seeking to offset their costs.

Applicants to the 36-credit degree program must have a combined undergraduate GPA (multiplied by 200) and GMAT score of at least 1,100 GMAT waivers may be offered to applicants with a minimum GPA of 2.75 or, with at least three or more years of significant managerial experience, a minimum GPA of at least 2.5. GMAT scores and transcripts must be submitted with an application, application fee, transcripts of all previous college work, and a current resume.

Students in the program may be able to graduate in as little as four semesters, although it is recommended that working students plan for a two-year course of study. The curriculum requires 27 credits of core classes and nine credits of elective coursework.

Schreiner University

Master of Business Administration in Ethical Leadership

Schreiner University hosts an MBA in Ethical Leadership that helps students learn how to pursue business success while leading with integrity.

Cohorts for the 36-credit program begin six times each year. Classes start every seven weeks, allowing students to complete the degree within one year. Students can enroll full- or part-time, with part-time students completing the program in as little as two years. Courses include Accounting for Decision Making, Borderless Marketing, and Advanced Organizational Behavior. Students without previous business coursework may be required to take up to two extra leveling courses.

In order to qualify for the program, applicants must have a bachelor’s degree with a GPA of at least 3.0 and submit a professional resume and all previous college transcripts. Applicants without a sufficient undergraduate GPA may be accepted on a provisional basis. Schreiner University boasts a 100% acceptance rate.

Tuition for the MBA in Ethical Leadership program is $632 per credit hour. Schreiner offers the Schreiner Premier Scholarship for employees of partner organizations, which can offset more than half of the program’s tuition costs.

Southern Methodist University

Cox Online Master of Business Administration and Cox MBA Direct

Southern Methodist University’s (SMU) Cox School of Business offers two online MBA programs: the Cox Online MBA for professionals with more than three years of work experience and the Cox MBA Direct program for students who have spent less than three years in a professional environment.

The Online MBA requires 52 credits and 27 months to complete, while the MBA Direct requires 33 months and 53 credits. Both programs are offered part-time and hold synchronous courses during weeknight evenings, although the Online MBA program provides some optional Sunday classes. MBA Direct students must complete one four-day global immersion course, while the Online MBA requires two immersions, both global and domestic.

Both programs require a bachelor’s degree and unofficial transcript, an essay, a resume, and two professional recommendations for admission. A GMAT or GRE score is optional for Cox applicants.

The tuition cost for both programs is $1,762 per credit hour. As a result, the total tuition for the Online MBA is $91,624, and the MBA Direct program is $93,386.

Texas A&M International University

Master of Business Administration Online

Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) offers an AACSB-accredited online MBA that can be completed in 15 months.

TAMIU’s online MBA offers students six different concentrations to choose from, including Criminal Justice; Healthcare; International Banking and Finance; International Business; International Trade & Logistics; and Management. Each concentration requires 21 credits of core classes and nine credits of electives specific to the concentration, totaling 30 credits.

The tuition for the MBA program is $486 per credit hour, the seventh-lowest in Texas and well below the average state tuition of $815 per credit. In addition, TAMUI offers financial aid options to help further offset the cost of attendance.

Automatic admission is granted to applicants who have a bachelor’s or graduate degree from an accredited business school with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in upper-level coursework and can supply a current resume with three references. Applicants without previous business coursework may be accepted on a provisional basis, pending the completion of prerequisite coursework. Applicants who do not meet the above criteria must submit a GRE or GMAT score, a personal statement, and two letters of reference.

Texas A&M University–Central Texas

Master of Business Administration

Online MBA students at Texas A&M University-Central Texas (TAMUCT) can choose an optional emphasis in Management, Human Resource Management, Information Systems, or Healthcare Administration Without an emphasis, 30 credits are required to complete the degree; an emphasis adds six credits for a total of 36. Additional prerequisite credits may be necessary for students without a business degree.

Admission into the ACBSP-accredited program requires a graduate application and processing fee; two essays; official transcripts from any previous degree-granting schools; a current resume; and a bachelor’s degree. Any applicant under the age of 21 must show proof of bacterial meningitis vaccination.

In past years, a GMAT or GRE score was required for admission. However, the testing requirement has been waived through the summer of 2022.

The curriculum can be completed in a single year and differs with each emphasis, though certain courses, such as Accounting and Management; Marketing Management; and Financial Management, are required of all students in the program. In addition to a chosen emphasis, students can add a micro-credential in data analytics that requires nine credit hours to complete.

Texas A&M University–Commerce

Texas A&M University-Commerce (A&M Commerce) hosts an MBA that can be completed almost entirely online within two years.

Students in the program take eight required core classes and two elective classes chosen from the A&M Commerce College of Business catalog. Those interested in further specialization can pursue a four-course minor in subjects such as Accounting, Agribusiness, Business Analytics, Cyber Security, Digital Marketing, Economics, Finance, Financial Planning, Economics of US Healthcare, Marketing, Marketing Analysis, Corporate Management, or Real Estate.

In order to enroll in the MBA program, applicants must submit a letter of recommendation, personal statement, resume, a GMAT or GRE score, and official transcripts along with their application. The GMAT or GRE requirement is waived for students with a GPA of 3.0 or above.

Texas A&M University–Kingsville

Online MBA

The Online MBA from Texas A&M University-Kingsville (TAMUK) provides students with the opportunity to graduate in as little as 12 months.

The AACSB-accredited program requires 30 credits, including 21 credits of core classes and nine credits of electives. Students may also use their elective coursework towards certificates in Business Analytics; Collaboration and Team Dynamics; Health Informatics; Renewable Energy Finance, Accounting, and Logistics; Managing People in the Global Enterprise; and Taxation.

The Online MBA requires students without previous coursework in business to complete a series of foundation courses with a grade of “C” or better before beginning the MBA coursework. Applicants who have completed the prerequisite coursework must have a bachelor’s degree and a GMAT or GRE score of 420 or 294, respectively. Students with an undergraduate GPA of 3.5 or higher or an advanced degree may qualify for a GMAT or GRE waiver.

TAMUK’s MBA is tied for the fourth-highest acceptance rate of any MBA in Texas at 96%. In addition to a high acceptance rate, the program is tied for the highest graduation rate among Texas MBAs, graduating 83% of students within the standard three years.

Texas Southern University

Online Executive MBA (EMBA)

Designed for full-time working students, Texas Southern University’s (TSU) online Executive MBA (eMBA) offers two 36-credit tracks, a General Business Track and an Energy Finance Track.

The curriculum is offered through a cohort model with courses lasting 10 weeks. Students take 12 classes over two years, including courses in accounting, quantitative analysis, operations, and marketing. Online classes are presented through the Blackboard platform.

Unlike many MBA programs, the eMBA at TSU requires neither a GMAT score nor prerequisite courses. Applicants to the program are required to have a bachelor’s degree in any subject and at least three years of progressive experience as a supervisor or manager. Along with the applications, TSU requires an official undergraduate transcript, a statement of purpose, two letters of recommendation, and a current resume. Applications of students with an undergraduate GPA below 2.75 will be reviewed by the eMBA Admission Committee before acceptance.

Once enrolled, tuition costs $6,000 per term over the course of six terms. This cost covers books, course materials, and development activities.

Texas Tech University

Online MBA at Rawls College

Texas Tech University’s Rawls College of Business offers an online MBA that can be taken full-time or part-time. Full-time students can finish the 42-credit degree in one year, while part-time students can take two to six years to complete the program.

The curriculum includes 24 credits of required courses such as Leadership and Ethics; Managing Concepts and Strategies; and Strategic Global Management. Optional concentrations are available in Healthcare Organization Management, Information Technology, and Marketing Analytics. As a part of the curriculum, all MBA students will gain a Microsoft Excel Specialist certification.

With a cost of $333 per credit hour, the Rawls Online MBA has the third-lowest tuition among Texas’s MBA programs. The full program costs $13,986 for both in-state and out-of-state students.

In order to apply to the program, students must submit transcripts from all previous colleges, a GMAT score from the last five years, and a resume. Applications are reviewed holistically, and Texas Tech does not have specific test score or GPA requirements. However, students with a GPA of at least 3.75 in any previous program may apply for a testing waiver. Alternate tests to the GMAT may be accepted with department approval.

Texas Wesleyan University

Online Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Texas Wesleyan University offers an online MBA that can be finished in as little as 12 months. For students requiring a slower pace, the program offers 15 and 18-month degree plans.

The program requires 30 credits to complete. For some students, leveling classes may be necessary before enrolling in MBA coursework. Concentrations are available in Accounting, Data Analytics, Supply Chain Management, Healthcare Administration, or General Business Administration. The program offers seven academic sessions throughout the year, with courses lasting seven weeks.

Applicants to the program must have a bachelor’s degree with either a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 or a minimum GPA of 2.75 over the last 60 credits and a GMAT score of at least 500 or the GRE equivalent score. A GMAT waiver is available for students with an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or above; students with three years of professional experience and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 (or at least 2.75 over the last 60 credits); or students with a graduate degree with a GPA of 3.0 or above.

An applied option is available that requires occasional campus visits and hands-on study.

Texas Woman’s University

MBA

Offering emphases in Accounting, Business Analytics, General Business, Healthcare Administration, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Sport Management, and Women in Leadership, the MBA at Texas Woman’s University (TWU) allows students to tailor their studies to suit their needs.

The 36-credit program includes 24 credits of required core courses and 12 credits towards an emphasis. While all classes are offered online, the program also offers opportunities for students to pursue internships and study abroad opportunities.

Admission to the program requires a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the last 60 hours of coursework and proficiency in common business software such as Microsoft Office. Applicants with a GPA of at least 2.5 may be able to gain provisional admission. Students without previous business coursework may be required to complete up to nine prerequisite courses. TWU does not require a GMAT or GRE score to be admitted.

Tuition for the program is $770 per credit hour.

University of Dallas

The Dallas MBA

The University of Dallas (UD) offers an online MBA that is accredited by the AACSB and requires at least 30 credits to complete.

The core MBA curriculum consists of 10 courses that are required of all MBA students. Completing only the core curriculum allows students to graduate in one to two years. Students have the option of taking three more classes to complete a concentration and finish within two to three years. Concentrations are available in Accounting, Business Analytics, Cybersecurity, Finance, Healthcare Analytics, Technology Management, Marketing, Strategic Leadership, and Supply Chain Management.

The full program tuition is 37,500 for the MBA without a concentration. The per-credit hour tuition is $1,250. UD offers financial aid options for students seeking to offset some of the costs.

The Dallas MBA has one of the highest acceptance rates of any MBA in Texas, accepting 96% of qualified applicants. To qualify for admission, applicants must have a bachelor’s degree with a GPA of at least 2.0 and a minimum GPA of 3.0 in graduate work. Required prerequisite classes differ by concentration.

University of Houston

Bauer MBA Online

The University of Houston’s (UH) Bauer College of Business offers an online (MBA that can be completed in 24 months. The program has two start dates, one in fall and one in spring.

The 48-credit program requires 21 credits of core courses and 27 credits of electives. The majority of the first year is spent on required courses such as Marketing Administration, Business Communication, and Information Systems, while the second year of the program consists primarily of electives.

Applicants to the program must submit undergraduate transcripts; a GMAT or GRE score; a resume; a statement of goals; and a letter of recommendation. Applicants who can prove they have several years of professional experience or a high level of quantitative and analytical knowledge may waive the testing requirement.

All online students at the Bauer College of Business pay the in-state tuition rate of $866 per credit hour. The total program cost is $41,572. Students seeking financial aid can apply for all relevant UH scholarships with a single application.

University of Houston–Clear Lake

Business Administration MBA Online

The online MBA at the University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL) can be completed in as little as 14 months. The AACSB-accredited program offers an accelerated format, with each academic session lasting eight weeks.

The tuition for the 36-credit program is $1,021 per credit hour, making it the eighth-most expensive tuition among Texas MBA programs. However, the program has the fifth-lowest incidence of student debt for MBA programs in the state. Only 40% of graduates leave the program with student debt, and at an average debt of $26,330, its graduates have the sixth-lowest average debt of reporting MBA programs.

Required courses make up 24 of the 36 credits required to complete the program. The remaining 12 credits may be used towards concentrations in Business Analytics, Environmental Management, Finance, Human Resource Management, International Business, Leadership, Management Information Systems, Management of Technology, Sustainability, or a self-styled concentration. An extra course may be required for students without prior business coursework.

Admission to the program requires the submission of undergraduate transcripts, an application, and a GMAT score. The GMAT requirement may be waived for students with a 3.0 GPA or higher in the last 60 credits of study; a graduate or professional degree; or a Ph.D., M.D., Ed.D, D.D.S., or J.D.

University of Houston-Victoria

Global Master of Business Administration (MBA) Online
The Global Master of Business Administration Online at the University of Houston-Victoria (UNV) offers students an AACSB-accredited program with five specialization options in Finance, General Business, Human Resources Management, Management, and Marketing.

The Global MBA requires 30 credits to complete. All MBA students will take eight core classes such as International Finance, Global Economics, and International Marketing. Specialization coursework is taken through the remaining six elective credits.

All US residents pay the same tuition rate, regardless of state residency. The $417 per credit hour tuition includes all program and school fees. The full program tuition is $12,499.

Prospective students must have a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 2.5, a statistics course, and a GMAT score. A GMAT waiver is available for students who have a graduate or professional degree; a GRE score of 292 or higher from the last five years; an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or above in the last 60 hours of classes; or an undergraduate GPA of 2.5 to 2.99 in the last 60 hours of coursework and a “B” or better in their first nine hours of graduate coursework.

University of North Texas

Online MBA

The University of North Texas’s (UNT) G. Brint Ryan College of Business offers an online MBA with specializations in Business Analytics, Finance, Health Service Management, Marketing, Marketing Analytics, Organizational Behavior & Human Resources, Supply Chain Analytics, Supply Chain Management, and Strategic Management. All courses are offered in an asynchronous format to accommodate a variety of scheduling needs.

The program is available in both part-time and full-time formats. UNT recommends that students working full-time take the part-time format, with one to two classes per eight-week session and that students working fewer hours take a full course load of three to four classes each session. At this rate, full-time students can complete the 36-credit program in as little as 14 months.

The curriculum consists of 24 credits of core courses and 12 credits taken towards a specialization. Some prerequisite coursework may be required of students without the necessary undergraduate coursework.

While 46% percent of graduating students leave the MBA program with student debt, UNT has the lowest average student debt of any MBA program in Texas, at $11,724.

Applications to the online MBA program should include a 600- to 700-word essay, a professional resume, three letters of recommendation, official undergraduate transcripts, and a GMAT or GRE score. The GMAT/GRE score may be waived for students with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 from a regionally accredited institution. Applicants holding advanced degrees may also be eligible for a GMAT waiver.

University of Texas of the Permian Basin

100% Online Master of Business Administration (MBA)

The University of Texas of the Permian Basin (UT Permian Basin) is home to a 30- to 36-credit online MBA that can be completed in one year.

The online program does not charge out-of-state tuition, making tuition for the full program as low as $10,698. Tuition may be higher for students without an undergraduate degree in business who require additional core and preparation classes.

Courses in the program consist of six to 12 core credits, 21 courses beyond core, and one elective course. Most class sessions last eight weeks during the school year or seven weeks during the summer, though some classes require two sessions.

To gain full admission to the program, applicants must have a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0 during the last 60 hours of study and a GPA/GMAT composite score of 1,120 or higher. The composite score is determined by multiplying an applicant’s undergraduate GPA by 200 and adding the GMAT score. Conditional admission may be available for applicants with a GPA between 2.5 and 3.0, a GPA/GMAT score of 1,120, and either two letters of recommendation or professional experience. The GMAT requirement may be waived for students with a GPA of 3.25 or above.

University of Texas–Dallas

Professional MBA (PMBA) Online

The Professional Master of Business Administration (PMBA) Online at the University of Texas-Dallas (UT Dallas) offers students a variety of opportunities to customize their studies to fit their needs. Offering 15 different concentrations, students can choose to focus their studies on accommodating their career goals. In addition, a variety of certificates and double major options are available to further specialize individual programs of study.

The part-time program requires 53 credits to complete, including 32 core credits and 21 elective credits. Students can complete the degree in as little as 21 months.

Applicants to the program must submit an application along with undergraduate transcripts, a GMAT or GRE score, one letter of recommendation, a 300-500 word essay, and a professional resume. Testing waivers are available for students with an undergraduate degree from UT Dallas with a minimum GPA of 3.5 or a bachelor’s or master’s degree from an AACSB-accredited business school with a GPA of at least 3.6.

The PMBA from UT Dallas has one of the lowest occurrences of student debt in Texas. Only 31% of graduates leave the program with debt.

University of Texas–Rio Grande Valley

Master of Business Administration (MBA) Online

With the fifth-lowest tuition of Texas MBA programs at $472 per credit hour, the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) offers an affordable online option for students seeking to enhance their professional opportunities and develop their management abilities.

The AACSB-accredited program requires 36 credits to complete, nine required courses and three electives. Students without previous business coursework may also need to take up to three foundational courses. With class sessions lasting seven weeks, full-time students can finish the program within 12 months.

Admission to the program requires a bachelor’s degree with a GPA of at least 3.0 and either a minimum GMAT score of 400 or GRE score of at least 146 Verbal and 146 Quantitative. Testing waivers are available to applicants with a graduate degree, an undergraduate GPA of 3.25 or higher, or four years of upper management experience. Applicants with a GPA between 2.75 and 3.0 may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

With per-credit hour tuition of $472, the total cost of the program is $17,000. UTRGV offers financial aid options and scholarships to help defer the cost of attendance.

University of Texas–Tyler

Master of Business Administration (MBA) Online

The University of Texas-Tyler (UT Tyler) offers an AACSB-accredited online MBA that can be completed in 12 months, although the average completion time is 18 to 24 months.

Courses are offered in an asynchronous format in order to maximize their accessibility. The curriculum is comprised of 36 total credits. UT Tyler offers a separate MBA in Healthcare degree
as well as MBA concentrations in Cyber Security and Marketing.

Prospective students must have a bachelor’s degree and a satisfactory GMAT score and GPA. Sufficient scores are determined by multiplying a student’s GPA in the last 60 credits by 200 and adding the GMAT score. The total must be equal to or greater than 1,000. The GMAT score may be waived for students with a GPA of 3.25 or higher or three years of executive management experience. In some cases, applicants may submit a GRE score in place of the GMAT.

Full-time tuition for the 36-credit degree is $30,220. Payment may be made on a per-course basis, costing $2,528 per course. Online students pay the same rate, whether in-state or out-of-state.

University of the Incarnate Word

Professional Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Offering a Professional Master of Business Administration (MBA) that can be completed in 10 months, the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) has one of the highest graduation rates in Texas. Of students enrolled in the program, 68% will graduate within three years.

Admission to the ACBSP-accredited program requires a bachelor’s degree with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Applicants must submit an official transcript of all previous college work and evidence of completion of prerequisite coursework, as well as undergo an evaluation by the program advisor. Students with an undergraduate GPA between 2.5 and 2.99 may receive conditional admission.

Tuition for the 30-credit program is $1,000 per credit, with a total cost of $30,000.

Students can choose one of three specializations in Human Resource Management, Data Analytics, or Asset Management, or develop their own specialization. Foundation courses are available for students entering the program without the necessary prerequisite coursework.

The MBA program has been acknowledged by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). The Human Resource Management curriculum aligns with the standards of the SHRM guidebook and templates and can qualify students to take the SHRM-CP exam.

Wayland Baptist University

The School of Business at Wayland Baptist University (WBU) offers an MBA program with a Christian emphasis that requires 48 credits to graduate and will help students develop their knowledge of management principles, analytical decision making, and responsible leadership.

Specializations are available in Accounting, Digital Marketing, General Business, Healthcare Administration, Hospitality Management, Human Resource Management, Management, Management Information Systems, and Project Management. Regardless of specialization, there are 10 courses that all MBA students must take; three additional core courses may be selected to complete the degree.

Admission requirements to the program differ by undergraduate GPA for the last 60 hours of coursework. Prospective students with a GPA between 2.5 and 2.69 must submit a writing sample and undergo an admission interview to gain provisional admission. Applicants with a GPA between 2.7 and 2.99 must submit a writing sample. Those with a GPA above 3.0 will be immediately considered for admission. WBU has a 100% acceptance rate for qualified applicants.

Tuition for the MBA at WBU is $499 per credit hour, well below the state average of $815.

West Texas A&M University

West Texas A&M University’s (WTAMU) online MBA is one of the most affordable online MBA programs in the state. The per-credit hour tuition for the AACSB-accredited program is $410, and the full program costs between $15,000 and $17,040 depending on courses taken and state of residence. The program also boasts some of the lowest student debt rates of Texas MBA programs, at 35%.

Students have up to six years to finish the program, though 83% of students finish within three years. The total credits required to graduate varies by specialization and academic background. Students with previous business coursework may be able to waive up to nine credit hours of leveling courses.

Core classes make up 28 to 30 hours of the MBA curriculum for all students. The General MBA requires three elective credits, while specialization tracks require nine. Specializations are available in Computer Information Systems, Healthcare Management, Management, Marketing, and Procurement Management.

Applying to the MBA program at WTAMU requires an official transcript from all schools attended, a GMAT, a Statement of Goals, three letters of recommendation, and the WTAMU graduate application. GMAT waivers are available for applicants with an undergraduate or graduate degree with a GPA of at least 3.0 or 10 years of professional experience with a demonstrable upward career progression.
